(A blog, Isn’t that so 2000’s?)
Hello, it was about time I started to jot down some thoughts, and the easiest way to share this would be through my website and a blog. I thought about Substack, and maybe it will migrate over there too. But for now, here we are. This will be a place where I can share thoughts about yoga, life, and things happening in Oxford. I intend for this to be a place to ask questions, think critically, and celebrate some of the great things happening in Oxford (whether yoga-related or not).
A heads up. I am dyslexic, so I don’t expect it to be spelt correctly or written in Oxford grammar. And I am not an academic, so as much as I think and discuss things, I will be from a less academic viewpoint (though maybe I will interview some along the way).
Who is Yoga with Katie?
I am a yoga teacher based in Oxford. I did my training back in 2020 with Yoga Quota / Nourish Yoga Training in Oxford. That year, we all went online for training half way through, so it was a little unusual, but I was grateful that the training kept going and switched to online halfway through. Since then, I have been teaching across Oxford in various yoga studios, gyms, and other places. Alongside teaching yoga classes, I host workshops and a few day retreats and teach on a yoga teacher training.
My vision is to offer a space for people to practice yoga and learn together as a community. I love to help empower students to; feel comfortable being themselves in class, have the opportunity to find a sense of agency within their yoga practice, and find their own set of tools they can take with them throughout their lives. This in practice, looks like a yoga class, with an invitation to join the movements, options along the way, and maybe even a conversation or two. I think the part just before and after class where there is space for a little chatter is just as important. Friendships between students are made there, and the class has a more welcoming feel for it.
I teach a range of class styles, including Gentle Flow Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa, and Power Flow, within all of these styles. A common question is what my favourite class or style of teaching is, and the honest answer is that I don’t have a favourite. They all have their magic, and much like the seasons, it changes. In each class, I try to offer space for compassion and kindness, meditation and pranayama (breathwork).
Outside of classes, I might be found at other yoga classes(predictable, yes), at home with my wonderful housemates and kitties, or out in nature somewhere. I have a big appreciation for nature and what we can learn from it.
This blog is to explore practice, to ask and sometimes answer questions. And to share a bit more than is possible in a 60m class. Because I think there is such depth to yoga and space to offer off the mat as well.
Thank you for coming along for the journey, lets see where it goes!
