Tips for new Yoga Teachers

This is a test run! But hopefully, one that will be useful, too. I have this idea of collecting thoughts from various practitioners and answering a few questions about yoga. It would be a little like a research study, except I am not a researcher, and this will be an experiment in itself. But I get the impression it would be useful when talking to people.

The questions will vary in design. For this first one, I am winging it a little and making it an open question. I have a few meetings lined up to look at how to design surveys and make the data more useful to other teachers.

The Question:

What tips do you have for new yoga (or other movement) teachers

Why am I asking this?

It’s a common question, and when you talk to teachers who have been teaching for a while, you learn so many nuanced lessons that would be super useful to a new yoga teacher. Wouldn’t it be great if we could read through all of these things together? Maybe it would inspire new learnings along the way or start conversations between teachers about ways to support each other.

What am I going to do with the answers?

I am going to publish them here on this blog (after making sure those are anonymised, as I would like to be). The whole data set will be available to download and take a look at. I will also take the highlights and write in more detail about them, with a few friends to help dive a little deeper into the learnings.

Ok, I am in. What next?

I have created this survey here for you to take part in. The answers are anonymous unless you would like to leave your name. You don’t have to answer every question. I will leave this live for a month or so and then start to form the next blog to share what came up.

If you have any thoughts about other questions that it would be useful to think about, or you are a researcher and you want to collaborate please do get in touch the usual way, katiemcneilyoga@gmail.com

If you would like to contribute to the survey, it can be found here
